Frequently asked questions
- Where does power outage data come from?
- Outage information is from SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) and other distribution operators. When SSEN_OUTAGES_URL (or the SSEN data portal) is configured, we show current power cuts and estimated restoration where available.
- Which areas are covered?
- SSEN covers much of the north of Scotland, including the Highlands, Inverness, Skye, and parts of the Cairngorms and Speyside. You can filter by region on this page. For other areas, check your local distribution operator.
- Why is there no outage data?
- Live data requires the SSEN outages URL to be configured. If it is not set, the list may be empty. For current power cuts and reporting, use the SSEN Power Cuts website.
- How do power cuts affect travel and accommodation?
- Power cuts can affect fuel stations, accommodation, and traffic signals. If you're on a chauffeur or tour and your route or stop is in an outage area, allow extra time and have a backup plan. See Chauffeur Inverness and Tours for trip planning.
