Summer landscape in the Scottish Highlands

Summer Tours Scotland | Private Highland Touring

Long daylight, wildflowers, festivals and quiet roads. Private chauffeur-guided summer tours from Inverness into the Highlands.

Why summer in the Highlands

Summer brings the longest days and warmest weather to the Scottish Highlands. Daylight runs from early morning until late evening, giving you more time to explore Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, Speyside and the NC500 without rushing.

The landscape is green, wildflowers line the roads, and Highland Games and festivals run from May to September. We design summer tours around your dates, interests and pace – whether that means a full day to Skye, a multi-day NC500 journey, or a whisky trail through Speyside.

See our best time to visit Scotland guide for month-by-month advice, or browse autumn tours and winter tours for other seasons.

Best summer experiences

Isle of Skye

Summer brings long daylight to Skye – up to 18 hours in June. The Trotternish ridge, Quiraing and Fairy Pools are at their best. We time stops to avoid the busiest crowds.

NC500 and the North Coast

The North Coast 500 in summer offers beaches, Smoo Cave, Dunrobin Castle and coastal roads with extended daylight. Ideal for multi-day touring at a relaxed pace.

Speyside Whisky Trail

Summer distillery visits combine tastings with long, light evenings. The Spey valley is green and the roads are quieter than autumn. We tailor the route to your preferred distilleries.

Loch Ness and Glen Affric

Long summer days suit full Highland loops – Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, Glen Affric and the Great Glen. We pace the day around the light and your interests.

Highland Games and Festivals

Summer is festival season: Highland Games from May to September, Edinburgh Fringe in August, Belladrum and Spirit of Speyside. We can build a tour around your chosen dates.

Ideal for

Families

Long daylight, school holidays and outdoor stops suit families. We plan routes with comfort breaks, wildlife spotting and flexible pacing.

First-time visitors

Summer offers the most forgiving weather and longest days for exploring. Our driver-guides help you see the best of the Highlands without rushing.

FAQs

When is summer in Scotland?

Summer runs from June to August, with the longest daylight in late June. May and September are often called 'shoulder season' – still long days, fewer crowds, and sometimes better weather.

How long are the days in summer?

In Inverness, midsummer daylight runs from around 4am to 10pm. In the far north (Orkney, Shetland) you get twilight all night. We plan tours to make the most of the light.

Are midges a problem in summer?

Midges are most active from May to September, especially in still, damp conditions. We choose stops and timing to minimise exposure, and can adjust if needed. Coastal and elevated spots are often clearer.

What should I pack for a summer Highland tour?

Layers are essential – temperatures can range from 10 to 22°C. A waterproof jacket, comfortable shoes and sunscreen are recommended. We have space for bags and can suggest stops for any extra layers.
