Frequently asked questions
- Where does road conditions data come from?
- Road and traffic data is provided by Traffic Scotland. When the Traffic Scotland connector is enabled, you see live incidents, roadworks, and closures. Otherwise placeholder summaries are shown. Always confirm critical routes on traffic.gov.scot before travelling.
- Which roads are covered?
- Major routes such as the A9 (Inverness–Perth–Edinburgh), A82 (Fort William–Glasgow), and other trunk roads and single-track routes in the Highlands. You can filter by region: All, Highlands, Inverness, Skye, Cairngorms, and Speyside.
- What about single-track roads and winter travel?
- Single-track roads (e.g. Bealach na Bà, many NC500 and Skye routes) are especially weather-sensitive. Traffic Scotland and the Met Office give warnings for snow, ice, and high winds. In winter, check A9 Drumochter and high-level passes before setting out.
