Luxury chauffeur transfers to Western Gailes from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Scottish airports. Championship links on the Ayrshire coast.

Western Gailes Golf Club is consistently ranked among Scotland's top 15 courses — a classic out-and-back links on the Ayrshire coast, founded in 1897 and barely changed since. We provide private golf transfers to Western Gailes from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Scottish airports.

About the course

Western Gailes sits between Dundonald Links and Royal Troon on a narrow strip of duneland between the railway line and the sea. The out-and-back routing follows the natural contours of the land — no earthmoving, no artifice, just firm links turf running through low dunes with the Firth of Clyde and the Isle of Arran as a constant backdrop. The bunkering is deep and strategic, the greens are fast and true, and the wind off the sea is always a factor.

The club has hosted Final Qualifying for The Open Championship and is regularly used for top amateur events. Many experienced Scottish golfers consider it one of the finest natural links in the country — better conditioned than some of its more famous neighbours and with a timeless, unchanged quality that is increasingly rare. The clubhouse is traditional and welcoming, and the pace of play is civilised.

The drive from Glasgow

Glasgow to Western Gailes takes around 50 minutes via the M77 through Ayrshire. Edinburgh is roughly 90 minutes via the M8 and M77. Your driver will collect you from your hotel, apartment or airport and deliver you to the club — no need to navigate the Ayrshire coast roads or find parking. After your round, Royal Troon is five minutes south and Dundonald is 10 minutes north.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Western Gailes so highly rated?

Western Gailes is consistently ranked in Scotland's top 15 courses and has hosted Final Qualifying for The Open Championship. Founded in 1897, it is a classic out-and-back links with natural undulating turf, strategic bunkering, and sea views across to Arran and Ailsa Craig. The course has barely changed in over a century — it plays as golf was meant to be played.

How does Western Gailes compare to Royal Troon?

Western Gailes is five minutes from Royal Troon but has a very different character. Where Troon has the Postage Stamp and major championship grandeur, Western Gailes offers a more natural, unchanged links experience with equally excellent conditioning. Many visiting golfers rate it higher for the quality of the golf itself.

Can I get a tee time at Western Gailes?

Western Gailes is a private members' club but welcomes visiting golfers on certain days. We can advise on availability and help coordinate your booking alongside transfers. Advance booking is strongly recommended.
