Glenfarclas Distillery in Ballindalloch

Scottish Distillery Guide

Glenfarclas Distillery

Speyside · Est. 1836 · Ballindalloch

Glenfarclas is one of the few remaining independently owned distilleries in Scotland, still run by the Grant family after six generations. The distillery is famous for its exclusive use of sherry casks and the legendary Family Casks collection – single-cask bottlings from every year since 1952. The traditional approach and generous hospitality make it a favourite among whisky enthusiasts.

History

Robert Hay founded the distillery in 1836, and it was acquired by John Grant in 1865. The Grant family has run Glenfarclas ever since – now under sixth-generation chairman George S. Grant. The distillery uses the largest stills on Speyside, heated by direct flame until relatively recently, producing a rich, full-bodied spirit.

The whisky

Full-bodied and sherried with dried fruit, cinnamon, walnut and a long finish.
