GlenDronach is regarded as one of Scotland's great sherry-cask distilleries, producing intensely rich, deeply sherried single malts that rival anything from Speyside. The distillery sits in a quiet valley near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, and its traditional approach – including the use of floor maltings until recently and the continued use of sherry casks from Jerez – gives the whisky a character that sherry-bomb enthusiasts seek out.
History
James Allardice founded GlenDronach in 1826 and was known for charming Edinburgh society with his single malt. The distillery was one of the first to be licensed in the north-east. After years under various owners, GlenDronach was purchased by the BenRiach Distillery Company in 2008 and revitalised with a focus on sherry-cask maturation. It is now owned by Brown-Forman.
