Dalwhinnie is Scotland's highest distillery, sitting at 1,164 feet above sea level in the Cairngorms. The remote Highland setting and cold climate contribute to a slow, gentle maturation that produces one of the most approachable single malts in Scotland. As part of Diageo's Classic Malts series, Dalwhinnie has long been recommended as a perfect introduction to single malt whisky.
History
The distillery was originally called Strathspey when it was founded in 1897, capitalising on its position at the junction of old drove roads and the Highland railway. It was renamed Dalwhinnie – from the Gaelic 'dalwhinnigh' meaning 'meeting place.' The Met Office weather station at the distillery has recorded some of Scotland's lowest temperatures.
The whisky
Gentle and honeyed with heather, vanilla, pear and a light Highland character.
