Blair Athol Distillery in Pitlochry

Scottish Distillery Guide

Blair Athol Distillery

Highland · Est. 1798 · Pitlochry

Blair Athol sits at the southern gateway to the Highlands in Pitlochry, making it one of the first distilleries visitors encounter when driving north on the A9. It is one of Scotland's oldest, and although much of its production goes into Bell's blended Scotch, the distillery bottling is a well-kept secret – a rich, fruity Highland malt with excellent depth.

History

John Stewart and Robert Robertson founded Blair Athol in 1798 on the Allt Dour burn. After periods of closure in the 19th century, Arthur Bell & Sons purchased the distillery in 1933 and expanded it significantly. Blair Athol became the spiritual home of Bell's, Scotland's best-selling blended whisky for decades. It is now owned by Diageo.
