The Aviemore to Glasgow route

From Aviemore, the A9 runs south through the Cairngorms corridor, over the Drumochter Pass, and through Highland Perthshire to Perth. The A9 between Aviemore and Perth is well maintained and partially dualled, with average speed cameras for most of the distance. South of Perth, you join the M9 and then the M80 motorway to Glasgow.

The M80 is a modern dual carriageway that bypasses Stirling and runs directly to the northern edge of Glasgow. The whole route is on trunk roads and motorways, making it one of the more straightforward long transfers we offer. There are no single-track sections, no ferries, and no challenging mountain passes (the Drumochter is a high point but a well-engineered road).

The landscape transitions from the open Spey valley through Perthshire's woods and farmland to the central belt. The final 30 minutes into Glasgow follows the M80 through Cumbernauld and the northern suburbs. For Glasgow Airport drop-offs, we leave the M80 and take the M8 west, adding about 15 minutes.

Yes. Glasgow Airport is about 15 minutes from the M80 via the M8. We drop at the departures terminal and help with luggage. We can also collect from the airport for the northbound journey.

Is this route very different from the Aviemore to Edinburgh transfer?

The first half is identical: the A9 south from Aviemore to Perth. The routes diverge at Perth, with Glasgow heading west on the M9/M80 and Edinburgh heading south on the M90. The Glasgow route is about 15 minutes longer.

Can we stop somewhere for lunch on the way?

House of Bruar has a good restaurant and food hall. Pitlochry has several cafes and restaurants in the town centre. Perth has a wider choice if you want a proper sit-down lunch. We can build a stop into the schedule.

What about traffic around Glasgow?

The M80 and M8 can be slow during rush hours. We factor this into the timing. If you have a fixed arrival time (flight, meeting, event), we will plan the departure to account for potential congestion.
