About the course
Cruden Bay occupies towering sand dunes above a sweeping bay, with the ruins of Slains Castle — the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula — visible on the clifftop. The course routing is extraordinary: holes plunge through dune valleys, climb to elevated tees with 360-degree views, and thread along clifftop ridges with the sea crashing below. There are blind drives, semi-blind approaches, and greens perched in improbable positions — nothing about Cruden Bay is predictable, and that is its genius.
At around 6,400 yards from the medal tees, the course is not excessively long, but the terrain and the wind make every hole an adventure. The greens are fast and undulating, the rough is thick, and the setting is simply spectacular. The clubhouse sits above the bay with views across the course and the North Sea. It is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave.
The drive from Aberdeen
The 30-minute drive from Aberdeen follows the A90 north before turning east to the coast at Cruden Bay village. The final approach passes through fishing villages and open farmland with the sea appearing ahead. Your driver will collect you from your Aberdeen hotel or airport and deliver you to the club, with equipment handled throughout. After your round, Peterhead and Murcar Links are both within easy reach for afternoon golf.
