Carnoustie Golf Links is widely regarded as the toughest links on The Open Championship rota — the famous Championship Course has hosted The Open eight times, most recently in 2018. Known for its unforgiving layout, the Barry Burn, and the brutal closing stretch, it is a bucket-list course for serious golfers. We provide private golf transfers to Carnoustie from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness and Scottish airports.
About the course
The Championship Course at Carnoustie stretches to over 7,400 yards from the championship tees and is famously unyielding. The Barry Burn meanders across the closing holes, creating the most dramatic finish in links golf — the 17th and 18th have decided Open Championships and broken hearts in equal measure. Jean Van de Velde's collapse in the burn in 1999 remains one of golf's most iconic moments.
But Carnoustie is more than its fearsome reputation. The links turf is outstanding, the fairways are immaculately maintained, and the course plays through wide-open duneland with views across the Firth of Tay. From the forward tees, it is a challenging but enjoyable links. From the back tees, it is a genuine test of nerve. The town of Carnoustie wraps around the links, giving the course a public, accessible feel quite different from the exclusivity of some other Open venues.
