Typical route

Glasgow Outlander Day Tour Route

A west-to-east circuit from Glasgow through Stirlingshire and Fife, covering the key Central Belt Outlander filming locations.

1

Glasgow University (Harvard)

Morning departure stop

The stunning Gothic Revival main building of Glasgow University doubled as Harvard University in the later seasons of Outlander, where Brianna and Roger study. The Cloisters and Main Quadrangle are the most recognisable filming spots. We can stop for photos before heading out of the city.

2

Glasgow Cathedral

Optional morning stop

The only medieval Scottish cathedral to survive the Reformation intact. While not a direct Outlander location, the atmospheric interior and the adjacent Necropolis cemetery provide stunning Gothic atmosphere that resonates with the series' themes of Scottish history and faith.

3

Doune Castle (Castle Leoch)

Mid-morning

The most recognisable Outlander filming location, just 40 minutes from Glasgow. The Great Hall and courtyard are immediately familiar. Pick up the audio guide narrated by Sam Heughan for an entertaining walk-through. Also featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Game of Thrones.

4

Culross (Cranesmuir)

Lunch stop

Scotland's best-preserved 17th-century village, used extensively for Cranesmuir scenes. Cobbled streets, ochre-painted houses, and the Town House featured in the series. Culross Palace gardens are beautiful in summer. Great cafes for lunch. Atmospheric regardless of weather.

5

Falkland (1940s Inverness)

Afternoon

The pretty Fife village standing in for 1940s and 1960s Inverness in the opening scenes. The Bruce Fountain in the village square is instantly recognisable. Falkland Palace nearby is a Renaissance gem worth visiting if time allows.

6

Blackness Castle (Fort William Prison)

Late afternoon (optional)

The ship-shaped fortress on the Forth that serves as Fort William garrison. If time and energy allow, this makes a dramatic final stop. Otherwise, it can be swapped into an extended Edinburgh-Glasgow route.

Glasgow Outlander Tour FAQ

How long is the Glasgow Outlander day tour?

A full day, typically 8–10 hours depending on which stops you include. We collect from your Glasgow hotel around 8:30–9:00am. Timing is flexible.

What Outlander locations are near Glasgow?

Glasgow University (Harvard), Glasgow Cathedral, and Doune Castle (Castle Leoch) are all within easy reach. The tour then continues east to Culross, Falkland, and optionally Blackness Castle.

How does the Glasgow tour differ from Edinburgh?

Both cover many of the same Central Belt filming locations (Doune, Culross, Falkland), but a Glasgow departure adds Glasgow University and the Cathedral, and approaches the route from a different direction. Edinburgh adds Midhope Castle (Lallybroch) and Linlithgow Palace more naturally.

Can we extend the Glasgow tour into a multi-day trip?

Absolutely. A popular option is Glasgow on day one (city locations + Doune + Culross), then north through Perthshire and the Cairngorms to Inverness on day two for Culloden and Clava Cairns.

Is the tour private?

Yes, every tour is private. Your group, your driver-guide, a luxury vehicle, and a flexible schedule.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on group size, vehicle, and itinerary. Contact us with your dates for an accurate quote – we respond within 24 hours.
