Talisker Distillery in Carbost, Isle of Skye

Scottish Distillery Guide

Talisker Distillery

Island · Est. 1830 · Carbost, Isle of Skye

Talisker is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye and one of the most distinctive single malts in Scotland. Its peppery, maritime character is unmistakable – a whisky that tastes of its dramatic coastal setting on the shores of Loch Harport, with the Cuillin mountains as a backdrop. As part of Diageo's Classic Malts, Talisker is widely regarded as the definitive island malt.

History

Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill founded Talisker in 1830 at Carbost on the western shore of Skye. The distillery survived a devastating fire in 1960 and was rebuilt to the original specification. Robert Louis Stevenson once described Talisker as 'the king o' drinks,' and it remains one of the most awarded single malts in the world.
