When a couple from New York wanted a compact Highland introduction without rigid schedules, we designed a three-day private tour from Inverness. They travelled in a Mercedes V-Class with a dedicated driver-guide, with the route tailored around scenic stops, photography and relaxed pacing.
Day 1 – Inverness, Loch Ness and Glenfinnan
The first day combined Inverness and the Great Glen. We left the city at a comfortable hour and followed the loch road with stops at viewpoints and quiet pull-ins ideal for photography. Loch Ness was the centrepiece, with time at Urquhart Castle and optional short walks. The route continued to Glenfinnan, where the viaduct and monument offered dramatic scenery. The driver-guide adjusted timings on the day so they could linger where the light was best, with no fixed coach timetable.
Day 2 – Isle of Skye highlights
Day two focused on Isle of Skye highlights. The V-Class made the journey comfortable, with space for bags and camera gear. We included iconic viewpoints, coastal stretches and optional short walks, all at a pace that suited them. The driver’s local knowledge meant we could avoid the busiest spots and still hit the key scenic and photo opportunities they wanted.
Day 3 – Speyside whisky and castle visits
The final day shifted to Speyside for distillery visits and castle stops. With a private chauffeur, both could enjoy tastings without worrying about driving. We wove in a castle or estate visit to round out the day, with lunch at a country house hotel or local pub and the route planned around their preferences. The itinerary was fully bespoke – we’d discussed interests in advance and adjusted each day accordingly.
This itinerary reflects a growing trend among U.S. guests seeking private, immersive Highland travel without rigid schedules. If you’re planning a similar trip, our multi-day tours from Inverness and bespoke planning can be tailored to your dates and interests.
