We provide private chauffeur transfers from Aberdeen Airport to Mar Lodge Estate — National Trust for Scotland estate in Braemar. Private hire, stalking, and Cairngorms access.
The drive from Aberdeen Airport typically takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on traffic and routing. We offer meet and greet at arrivals, flight tracking, luggage handling, and discreet coordination for guests, PAs, and estate teams.
The route from Aberdeen Airport to Mar Lodge Estate
The route follows the same A90 then A93 corridor as Braemar, heading south to the Cleanhill roundabout before tracking the Dee valley through Banchory, Aboyne, and Ballater. After Crathie and the Balmoral gates, you continue west towards Braemar but turn off onto a private estate road just before the village. The final approach to Mar Lodge crosses the Dee on a narrow bridge and follows a single-track road through old Caledonian pine forest for about a mile.
The estate road is unsurfaced in places but well maintained. It can be muddy after heavy rain, which is not unusual in this part of Deeside. Our Mercedes vehicles handle it without difficulty, but it is worth knowing that the last stretch is genuinely remote. There is no mobile signal on the estate road itself. The lodge sits in a clearing with views south towards the Cairngorm plateau.
About Mar Lodge Estate
Mar Lodge Estate covers 29,000 hectares of the western Cairngorms, making it one of the largest land holdings managed by the National Trust for Scotland. The lodge itself is a Victorian shooting lodge available for exclusive private hire, with a ballroom that can seat over 100 guests. The estate offers deer stalking, grouse shooting, salmon fishing on the Dee, and access to some of the most remote Munros in Scotland, including Ben Macdui and Cairn Toul. It is a working Highland estate, not a polished hotel, and that is the appeal.

Local tips from our drivers
Let the estate know your expected arrival time; the gate to the private road is not always staffed, and mobile signal disappears once you leave the A93. In autumn (September and October), stalking activity means some estate tracks may be closed. Midges can be fierce June through August, particularly in the sheltered pine woods around the lodge. There are no shops or services on the estate, so anything you need should be picked up in Braemar or Ballater on the way through.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the estate road suitable for a normal car?
- The estate road is single-track and unsurfaced in sections but is passable in a standard vehicle. Our Mercedes saloons and SUVs handle it comfortably. In winter or after prolonged rain, an SUV is preferable and we will allocate one automatically.
- Can we stop for supplies on the way?
- Ballater has a good Co-op, a butcher, and a deli. Braemar has a small Spar and the Braemar Mountain Sports shop. We are happy to build a shopping stop into the transfer. The estate itself has no shops.
- Is there phone signal at Mar Lodge?
- Signal is extremely limited on the estate. There is Wi-Fi in the lodge itself, but do not rely on mobile coverage once you leave the A93. We advise guests to download offline maps and let contacts know about the limited signal.
- How close is Mar Lodge to Braemar village?
- The estate entrance is about a mile west of Braemar, and the lodge itself is roughly two miles from the village by estate road. It is close enough for a taxi or a walk if you want to visit the village during your stay.
