We provide private chauffeur transfers from Aberdeen Airport to The Fife Arms — Five-star boutique hotel in Braemar, Cairngorms. Art-filled Victorian coaching inn with fine dining and Royal Deeside setting.
The drive from Aberdeen Airport typically takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic and routing. We offer meet and greet at arrivals, flight tracking, luggage handling, and discreet coordination for guests, PAs, and estate teams.
The route from Aberdeen Airport to The Fife Arms
From Aberdeen Airport you head south on the A90 dual carriageway towards Stonehaven, picking up the A93 at the Cleanhill roundabout. The A93 follows the Dee valley west through Banchory, Aboyne, and Ballater, a well-surfaced single carriageway that tracks the river for most of its length. West of Ballater the road narrows slightly through Crathie, passing the gates of Balmoral Castle, before climbing gently into Braemar.
The second half of the drive is the scenic part. Between Aboyne and Ballater you pass through mature Scots pine woodland with open views across the Dee to the Cairngorm plateau. After Crathie the valley tightens and the hills close in. Braemar itself sits at around 340 metres elevation, noticeably cooler than the coast. The Fife Arms is on the main street, easy to spot from either direction.
About The Fife Arms
The Fife Arms is a Victorian coaching inn rebuilt from the ground up by Iwan and Manuela Wirth, owners of Hauser & Wirth galleries. The collection inside runs to over 16,000 works, from Picasso drawings to commissioned pieces by contemporary Scottish artists. The food at Clunie dining room uses estate game and Deeside produce, and the Bertie's Bar is one of the better whisky lists in the region. It is a serious hotel that happens to be in a small Highland village.

Local tips from our drivers
The A93 west of Ballater frequently has slow-moving timber lorries during weekday mornings. If you are arriving in winter, check the Glenshee snow gates before setting off; the A93 south of Braemar can close in heavy snow, though this does not affect the approach from Aberdeen. Allow an extra 15 to 20 minutes December through March for possible ice and reduced visibility on the upper Deeside stretch. Mobile signal drops between Crathie and Braemar on some networks.

Frequently asked questions
- Can we stop at Balmoral Castle on the way?
- Balmoral is right on the A93 near Crathie, about 10 minutes before Braemar. The grounds and exhibition are open roughly April to July each year. Outside those months you can still stop for a photo at the gates. We build this into the transfer time at no extra charge.
- Is the road to Braemar difficult in winter?
- The A93 from Aberdeen to Braemar is a main route and is gritted regularly. Snow gates exist south of Braemar at Glenshee, but the Aberdeen approach stays open in all but the worst conditions. We monitor road reports before every winter transfer and will contact you if conditions require a timing adjustment.
- How far is Braemar from the Cairngorm ski area?
- The Glenshee ski centre is about 20 minutes south of Braemar on the A93. The Cairngorm Mountain ski area near Aviemore is roughly an hour and a half north via the A9. We can arrange onward transfers to either.
- Can you wait while we check in, then take us somewhere for dinner?
- Yes. We offer wait-and-return and multi-stop transfers. Braemar is a small village so most dining is within the hotel itself, but if you want to eat at the Fife Arms' Clunie restaurant or try somewhere in Ballater (about 25 minutes east), we can arrange that.
