Highland Consulting Group, LLC (Highland) is a financial services firm providing financial analysis, outsourced CFO and accounting support to clients since 1999. Highland’s three service offerings assist clients in all phases of internal fiscal management, resulting in efficient operations, increased profitability and cashflow. Collectively, Highland provides Financial Navigation services to its clients.

About the Founder

Ted Higson founded Highland Consulting Group, LLC (Highland) in 1999 and has provided financial consulting and contract CFO and Management services to small and middle market companies for the past 11 years. Through Highland, Ted has provided contract management services to companies ranging in size from $1M to $300M in annual operating revenues. Contract CFO clients have ranged in size from $2M to $30M in annual operating revenues.

Ted is expert at performing in depth analysis of financial performance resulting in cost reduction, increased efficiency and profitability. Ted’s unique focus on cost structures as per basic units of sale, coupled with a strong focus on macro- and micro-economic trends allows clients to properly prepare for market contractions and expansions.

Ted previously founded the Mountain Maryland Entrepreneurial Development Center, Inc. (MMEDC), successfully building an entrepreneurship organization with a multi-million dollar funding structure. Through the MMEDC, Ted built the Rural West Fund, a ‘near-equity’ financing entity structured as a early stage fund supporting growing small businesses in western Maryland.

Prior to these efforts, Ted performed scientific research at Wake Forest University Medical Center and at West Virginia University, concentrating in developmental genetics. Ted earned a B.S. degree in Biology from Frostburg State University, a M.S. degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from West Virginia University, and a M.B.A. from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University, concentrating in consulting and finance. Ted is a published author in scientific journals and has taught University level courses in Entrepreneurship and Bioscience related topics.
